LIPIDS

LIPIDS:

DEFINATION:

The hetrogenous(different)  group of organic compound which are insoluble in water (hydrophobic) but soluble in organic solvent such as acetone, alcohol and ether
HOW DIFFER FROM CARBOHYDRATE:
Lipids are the compound of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. However, they have releatively less proportion of oxygen to carbon and hydrogen example:Tristearin is a simple lipid whose molecular formula is C57H110O6. In this formula you clearly see that oxygen is present in very less amount as compared to carbon and hydrogen but if we see formula of sucrose which is carbohydrate(C12H22O11) so we obserbved that oxygen is not present in less amount then carbon and hydrogen, that the reason why lipids contain double amount of energy
The process in which lipid form is LIPOGENESIS genesis mean formation

FUNCTION:

Lipids function as
1-Energy storage molecules
2-insulation and protection for internal organs
3-as lubricant
4-as harmone
CLASSIFICATION:
general classification
    It has 3 main classes:
1-simple lipid
2-conjugated lipid
3-derived lipid
